Power Chords

Hard rock and metal guitarists often use what are called ‘power chords’. They’re not actually full chords because they only have two different notes, but they do just fine, and they are very powerful. Play ONLY the notes that are marked. Do NOT play any of the unmarked, open strings.Use the ones marked ‘E’ wherever you would barre the E or Em form, and use the ones marked ‘A’ wherever you would use the barred A form. I leave the ‘D’ one for you to figure out. Here are some ways to play them.

UNDERSTAND THIS!
To repeat, played here on the 5th fret like this, this scale formation is both the A Minor scale and the C Major scale (they’re the same—and note the 3 half-step separation between the letters ‘A’ and ‘C’).

 UNDERSTAND THIS!

If you move it up 3 frets, it is the C Minor scale (also the D# Major).

If you move it down 3 frets, it is the A Major scale (also the F# Minor).
